Zuckerberg called early Facebook users dumb fucks – so what?

This isn’t exactly new, but it surfaced again with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitting everything was true and that he was young and stupid once upon a time. Younger rather, the guy’s just 26 years old, so that part of the whole story is a bit moot. Then again, everyone’s getting old and experienced really quick these days.

So what did Zuck say then? SAI had it back in May, now confirmed true.

Zuck: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard

Zuck: Just ask.

Zuck: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SNS

[Redacted Friend’s Name]: What? How’d you manage that one?

Zuck: People just submitted it.

Zuck: I don’t know why.

Zuck: They “trust me”

Zuck: Dumb fucks.

That’s from the famous IM conversation. “Dumb fucks” are we, huh? Yeah, that’s probably true. After all, we’re all spewing our personal life on social networks, hand over our photos and say thank you, giving scary corporations a bunch of data about what we’re into so that we can be fed to spend more money on crap we don’t need.

Dumb fucks indeed.

Then again, so what? There’s nothing new here, not in the way this story gets wind again thanks to the New Yorker feature and splendid rags like Valleywag reporting it. And I’m obviously no better since I’m writing this post despite having better things to do.

After all, who cares about this? We’re feeding the Facebook monster anyway, like there’s no tomorrow. Which it might not be in this harsh business.
