Archive for books
I’ve made two minor updates on the site today.
- The Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog, 3rd Edition page is updated with some more information, and a pre-order link.
- The store page got the pre-order link for the book too. No Kindle edition available there yet.
I also updated my Amazon author page
with a new cover photo and the @tdh Twitter account.
In the not so distant future you’ll see a lot of changes here on TDH.me, as well as a somewhat steady stream of released content that I’ve neglected. Mostly WordPress themes, but there are some fiction that I’ll probably publish here as well.
I know you all have been dying to see the cover for upcoming Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog, 3rd Edition. It would be downright mean of me to keep you waiting any longer, so without further ado… Continued →

It is always nice when I get sent emails or tweets about where my books have been spotted. This photo (click for full-size image), which features both the first and second edition of Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog (the third edition is on its way!) as well as Tackling Tumblr, was sent to me by Ripperdoc who spotted these books in a book store in Singapore. Thanks!
A mere hour ago I delivered the manuscript for Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog, 3rd Edition to my publisher. That’s right, there’ll be a third edition of my WordPress book and I hope you’re as psyched about that as I am. Probably not, but still.
I’ll get back to you with more on this book, along with the cover and a table of contents, some PR talk and stuff like that. For now all I can tell you is that it is a fairly substantial update to the second edition, fully updated to the 3.3 branch of WordPress. I’m pretty happy with it, especially some new examples and ideas to get your minds spinning.
Look for more later. For now, I’ll just sit back and relax, feeling bloody happy of yet another manuscript delivered.
This is a first for me and my adventures in the print publishing world: Tackling Tumblr will be released earlier than planned.
The book, which obviously covers the ever growing Tumblr platform, will launch in late July in the US, and hit UK and mainland Europe in August. That’s not so far ahead, so look for some more information on this one real soon. Not today though, as I have a Web Designer magazine deadline on a really cool topic. Stay tuned for more on that too, as the magazine reached the stores.
A lot of you have asked me about which of my books are available now (as in mid-June 2011), and which one they should buy. Obviously I think you should buy them all, but that’s just the greedy penmonkey talking.
It’s quite simple really, this is what’s available. Continued →
I’m happy to let you all know that the preliminary report of the Smashing WordPress Themes: Making WordPress Beautiful sales for February are over 1,500 copies. That’s pretty good, a better start than the first edition of Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog got anyway.
Speaking of which, I’m surprised to see that Beyond the Blog continues to sell well over 500 copies monthly. The book is over a year old and the second edition is due in April, so I urge you to pick up Smashing WordPress Themes instead, or hold off until the Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog, 2nd Edition in April. More on that one here. Continued →
Here’s a possibly interesting little tidbit that I posted on my Facebook page yesterday: My next book is not in the Smashing series, as the previous have been. It is, however, in full color and published by the same publisher, which would be Wiley.
Have you reviewed, or seen a review, of any of my books? As I’m writing this, that would be either Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog (the first edition) or Smashing WordPress Themes: Making WordPress Beautiful. Be sure to send me a link to your review so that I can link it from here. Thanks!
Amidst the, at least according to themselves, struggling music and movie industry it is easy to forget about books. Borders have filed for bankruptcy which should come as a reminder that it is not only the visual industry that are facing a change these days, books are too.
If you’re following me on Facebook you saw this a few weeks ago, but I figured I’d put myself under some additional pressure by publishing my book writing goals for 2010 2011 here as well.
I’m going to write four books this year.
I’ll also see to it that four books get published this year. Continued →
Today I delivered the last part of the manuscript for the second edition of Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog. The first edition, which came out in late January last year, have sold well (we’re talking tens of thousand books here) and my publisher (Wiley) are obviously happy with it.
The second edition, which should be able for pre-order from Amazon and other fine online retailers, is due in April this year. It is fully updated for WordPress 3.1, with lots of new examples, concepts and whatnot. I’m pretty happy with it actually, and I believe you will be too. While time and space was limited, I do feel that it adds a lot of value, hopefully enough for fans of the first edition to want to pick up the second edition. At least that’s how I’ve written it, and I hope you’ll agree that it merits a second buy. Continued →
I think I’m allowed to talk about this now. If not, tough luck.
There will be a second edition of my highly popular, critically acclaimed, bestselling, insert-pr-speak-here book, Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog. The manuscript is in the hands of my editors as we speak, and those of you stalking me on Twitter or Facebook can finally rest easy knowing that this is what I’ve been working on the past few weeks.
I’ve added Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog, 2nd Edition to my books page, but there’s not much else going on over there right now. Expect it to be bigger, better, more up to date, and hopefully better syntaxed by the people doing that stuff as well. Obviously this is the version they’ll be translating when launching the book in Portuguese.
Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog, 2nd Edition is tentatively slated for release in April 2011.
Now go and buy Smashing WordPress Themes, it’s out next week!
Smashing WordPress Themes is not the only WordPress book by yours truly this year. Another one is scheduled to hit the shelves in April, more on that next week!
I know, I know, this blog is not extremely neglected, it also looks a bit dated compared to some other stuff I’m doing. Especially if you count cool things from my books. Now that just won’t do, now will it?
I’m in the process of revamping TDH.me, so if things suddenly luck totally weird and temporary, please bear with me. Most likely I will do this late one night when I feel like fiddling with something that can break. And most likely that will be done with a single malt whisky by my side, for some reason those two go hand in hand…
There’s another reason as well, and that is that I’m finally branching out to do more than just tech stuff in English. I’ll release something on Kindle (and other ebook formats) fairly soon, and it’s not about WordPress or anything like that. To make room for those things here as well, I need to do a bit of house cleaning.
And I’ll post more too. Promise.
